There’s a poet out in the world who writes short poetry. One liners. His name is Atticus. He recently published a book called Love Her Wild that I’m absolutely in love with. I wrote a review.  I guess his poetry could be considered more “love quotes” but they are still very poetic. I saw one today that simply said “It’s always going to be about love.” And I loved it.

If you are a regular reader, that probably won’t surprise you because I love everything. But the quote is so true. It’s always going to be about love and if it’s not, it should be. When people are most happy it’s because they love where they are in their lives at that moment. They are either in love with a person, or their job, or a new baby or the pizza special at the Tomato Head. It is that opposite feeling that makes people miserable. The person they thought loved them, doesn’t. Their job sucks. The baby is a teenager now. The pizza is gone. There are so many things in this world that can make you miserable if you let them.

Seriously, all you have to do is look on any news medium or social media network to find any of it. Church shooting. Wild Fires. Hurricanes. The President’s tweets. It’s all so depressing. Everything should be about love. I know that, for some, it’s not possible to always do what you love but I do think it’s possible to do more of what you love and less of what you loathe. I used to always list the things I hated doing. Or the things I hated about life. And it seemed like the list just kept getting longer and longer. I guess that’s the great thing about lists. There always something that can be added.

Ever since I quit my job and started writing, the list has turned into things I love. I always start each day with a mental checklist of things I love. No matter how small. It’s a really long list. If I didn’t give myself a time limit, I bet I could do it all day. Granted, I list a lot of trivial shit, but trivial shit is worth loving too.

For instance, I love that I don’t wake up with headaches anymore. I love that my kids are awesome and I had the greatest amount to do with that (even though I joke about not knowing how it happened, I know it happened mostly because of me). I love that I am surrounded by business minded people. I love that I have friends that are trying to do shit. I love that the leaves are starting to change. I love that I won’t have to mow the grass soon. I love that there will be a chill in the air every morning soon. I love that my wardrobe is about to consist of jeans and various hooded sweatshirts. I love writing poetry. I love writing everything. I love that I’m not mad at myself for anything anymore. I love that I’ve given this extra dog in my house a good end of life, because I think she is going to die very soon, and I’m happy that she was loved here. I could go on and on.

It is so very easy to come up with the things you love when you stop thinking about the things you can’t stand. I spent so much time working at jobs I hated and dating people who didn’t bring out the best in me and eating pizza that just isn’t good. I may be exaggerating on that last one, because, really, is there a pizza that just isn’t good? Maybe, but I’ve never had it. My point is I have been in a little bubble lately.

I’ve secluded myself from people and things that I don’t love. The people and things that don’t add value to my life. I’m not talking romantic love. I’m just talking general love. Maybe I over use the word. Or maybe the word itself is underutilized. Either way, I use it alot. I mean it when I say it. And I think that the motivation for most things is either love or the opposite.

We do things because we love them. Even murder can occur because of love. It happens all the time. Or we do things (or stop doing them) because they make us miserable, or angry, or depressed, etc. (murder also falls in to this category) I think everything really is always going to be about love. And if it’s not, I think it should be. So make your love list today. Think of all the things you love. Stop thinking about the things you don’t. Just do more of what you love and less of what you loathe. It’s really that simple.
