Casting a Wide Net

I mentioned in an earlier post that we were having a hard time weeding the scams out from the legitimate places to live in Myrtle Beach. So I eventually did what most people do when they are on the search for a needle in a haystack. I took to the internet and leaned on strangers. I joined a few of the Myrtle Beach Local Facebook pages and put up a post asking for help in finding a property. I think I posted in two or three groups. I also posted a picture of our Rottweiler, Zeus, which caused quite a debate about whether or not he was actually a Rottweiler or something else. People will literally argue over anything just to be right. Out of 65 comments, six suggestions were made for places to live…all apartments, which is a no go for us. However, two people on the thread reached out about having a property. One has a rental property about 10 minutes from where I will be working and the other might be a realtor. I haven’t gotten in touch with her yet, but the lady with the rental property is actually legit.

It’s been like playing a game of detective when I’m talking to people about renting. It’s funny that all the scammers don’t know that home ownership is public record and every city has a site that you can type in the address and see the owner card. So when the lady gave me the address to the property, I immediately looked it up to see who owned it and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was in her husband’s name.

So we finally have a promising lead that is not an apartment. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that it works out. It’s in a cute little neighborhood at the end of the cul de sac and the landlord is an animal lover. She said they have three dogs. But she also said they are in the process of evicting their current renters so I don’t know how long that process takes. According to Google it’s about 30-45 days. I don’t know where they are in the process, but I’m not going to get discouraged, we still have plenty of time to get all of it worked out.

Anyway, that’s today’s update on the big move.

In other discouraging news, we have a kitty that comes in and out that we found rummaging through the trash a while back and showed her how to use the doggie door, so she basically lives here now, but as I was petting our little stray perfect kitty the other day I found a tiny little bumb in between her shoulder blades. I think it may be a microchip and we may have stolen someone’s cat. I’m going to take her to the animal shelter next week and have her scanned. I don’t want to be a cat thief even though she is super sweet and adorable, if she belongs to someone, I want to return her, but she has been loitering around here for months now. So I’m a little bummed that we may have to give her back, but I guess she was never really “ours” to begin with.

I’m heading to work now. Have a great sunday, everyone!!
