I went on a road trip today to Ohio. I drove to Dayton to house sit for my daughter while she goes on vacation. I’d like to say it’s a vacation for me, but I will still be working. I will just be doing it from the comfort of someone else’s house…with a pool. So I guess that’s kind of like a vacation in a sense. If only I had bought the waterproof Chromebook, I’d be set.
I took off around 9ish in the morning. It’s only a 5-hour drive, but I have a tendency to get abducted by aliens while I travel and 5-hour drives turn into 8-hour drives and I didn’t want to be late. I guess that’s one of the perks and downfalls of traveling alone. I can stop whenever I want for whatever reason because there is nobody there to complain. And I can also just keep on driving through and not stop if I want to and there is also nobody around to complain.
Not that I mind traveling with others. I don’t. But I also don’t mind traveling alone. I think everyone should do it at some point in their lives. I’m sure it can be scary. I’ve traveled alone a lot. It’s never been scary for me, but I’m kind of an adventurer in the most “try not to get killed” kind of way.
I got here in just a little over 5 hours. I think it was a new record for actually arriving on time. And the drive was amazing. I had my windows down and my sunroof open the whole entire way. You are probably going to think I’m lying, but even the little bit that it did rain, didn’t get me wet. It got my windshield wet. And I had to use my wipers. But I left my windows down and the sunroof open the whole time and not a drop of rain got on me. It was like I had a giant umbrella over my car. I’d love to say that it was weird, but stranger things have happened to me. I’ll be here for almost two weeks. Alone. That will leave me with a lot of time on my hands. And no taking the kiddo to school or picking him up or taking him to basketball, etc. etc. etc. His big brother will be doing the parenting until I get back. So he’s in good hands.
As for me, I’m planning on being super productive. Although the beginning of the week didn’t go as planned, it should end on a high note. Time will tell. With summer approaching, I would suggest to anyone who feels like getting away, you should do it. And you should try doing it alone. It’s quite an experience. But hey, if you don’t want to travel alone, it is summer, and I’m always down for a road trip.
Have done many times. Nothing like the freedom of open roads and no one to answer to. Enjoy your down time.
