In typical Angie fashion, I was rearranging my house and broke my computer monitor. I do have a laptop, and I do have a phone, so I am probably just making excuses as to why I haven’t blogged in a bit, but I just prefer using a desktop for a lot of the things I do, including blogging. I like two handed typing and I like seeing the words on a big screen. Maybe it’s because as I age, I truly can’t see shit and my laptop screen is so very small. Either way, I ordered two new screens and they came in yesterday so today I felt pulled to get my ass in the chair and write something.
So… what’s been going on your way?
Over here, I did a little traveling. I went to Knoxville to visit my son briefly (very briefly, only a day or so), but we hung out and I took him some cool furniture pieces I found here at the beach. And then a few days later, I went to Dayton, Ohio to visit my daughter. She got me a round trip ticket for my birthday and we spent the weekend together. We went to First Friday downtown and looked at some art and some pretty cool art venues. We at at some really cool places. We volunteered at a festival and then spent the afternoon exploring the festival and we walked. A lot. My daughter has a dog and loves walking so we did a LOT of walking. It was a nice break from my daily life and now I’m back home.
And I had a birthday. I’m officially 50!
It’s crazy to say that. I don’t feel fifty. I guess I didn’t feel 40 when that happened either, or thirty. I feel like I’m perpetually 21, maybe 25. I still feel “young.” I think everyone does. Our bodies get older, but our brains protest a little about it and decide that its going to let us continue to believe that we are still the young, spry humans that can go out dancing all night, stay up late, wake up early, but when our alarm goes off we all of a sudden don’t want to get up early even though we went to bed at 9pm and even though there was no dancing, we have this weird and excruciating pain in our right heel. Or maybe that’s just me?
Either way, I’m fifty and I feel pretty good (physically). Mentally, I’m still working on things.
Will got me an annual pass to the State Park and to Brookgreen Gardens. If you don’t know what Brookgreen is, you should Google it. I could tell you it’s a beautiful sculpture garden and has a zoo, but that doesn’t really do it justice. It’s amazing and I’m lowkey obsessed with Anna Huntington who has a castle at Huntington Beach State Park (hence the state park pass). I find peace in these two places and now I have a whole passport of South Carolina state parks that I can visit and I don’t think any of them are more than 5 hours away, so I think there will be some day trips with the boys (aka Will and the dogs).
Other than that, I’ve started getting back to my workout routine this week. I’m planning on also getting back to my writing routine and just something like a routine in general. I’ve been doing a lot of shuffling things in and out of the house the last few weeks. We inherited some furniture that I refinished. I have two more pieces left to get done. One is a cabinet/hutch that is going to be a tea bar, the other is a super cool desk from the 50’s or 60’s. It could technically stay the way it is for the forseeable future, so I may wait to do that, but my goal is to do the tea bar this week.
And my mom is coming for two weeks so we re-arranged our spare bedroom making it more user friendly. We had a full sized couch and a full size bed crammed in there because my hoarder husband wasn’t ready to get rid of the couch after we got a new one, so while he was away dealing with some family stuff, I put on my superhero cape and moved the couch of the bedroom and into the back of our truck and took it to the dump. It was not donation worthy. I hate that it went to a landfill too, but we have a lot of cats and they love clawing at things when they are in the house, so it was hairy and hole-y. So now there is more room for my mom to move around in. We put a new bed in there and now it looks like a proper “beach” getaway.
So after my mom leaves, you can come visit!!! I’ll even put chocolates on your pillow if you’re into that sort of thing.
